Portland Photographers Forum

If you're interested in joining Portland Photographers Forum? Come to the meetings. We meet every third Wednesday of the month at Wilson High in Portland. The address is 1151 SW Vermont St. 7pm at the Teachers Lounge.
This month we're having new PPF member Jason Langer show his work. Jason was from the SF Bay Area and was assistant to many known fine art photographers there. In March, we may have an open easel session where any PPF member can bring and share their latest work and get feedback or group critiques.
Come for those two meeting for free and if you like what you see? Then pay the $30 annual membership fee. There is no hard press for you to join. PPF is a gathering of fellow photographers. The fee goes towards rentals of the rooms and insurance and website.
If you can't make it to the meetings but still want to join. You can send a check of $30 plus your contact information (Mailing address, phone and email) to:
PPF
PO Box 5643
Portland, OR
97228-5643
What you get from the membership is our newsletter, Flash announcements, early heads up on our photography workshops and events like the Fanfaire, admission to our PPF group shows and our newest item. A free members only photo workshop. Last year subject was on how to use your flat bed scanner to its best potential and this year we're planning a Polaroid transfer workshop with Lorraine Richey.
So, you get a lot for the money invested to PPF.
I hope this helps you out. Come to the February and March meetings.

Call to Artists: Hillsboro Artwalk
HELLO, LOCAL ARTISTS!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHOW YOUR ART?
Historic Downtown Hillsboro is looking for talented local artists to participate in our First Tuesday Artwalk evenings. If you aren’t aware of it, the First Tuesday Artwalk is one evening a month in which participating businesses host a local artist in their shops. Artists show their work between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. and the businesses usually serve some hors d’oeuvres and wine. Artwalk is open to almost any kind of artist, including visual arts and performing arts and music. 100% of art sales go to the artist.
WE HAVE OPENINGS FOR ARTISTS TO SHOW IN TWO CATEGORIES:
• Show the evening of the Artwalk
• Show in a local restaurant for one month.
UPCOMING ARTWALK DATES:
• March 4th
• April 1st
• June 3rd
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE, PLEASE EMAIL <mailto:blake@artenvy.net?subject=Artwalk> WITH:
• Your name and contact info
• Description of your art (including photos, if possible)
• Upcoming availability
• Venue preference, if any, including space requirements
We will put this information into our Artist/Business matching super computer to create a schedule of artists, locations, and dates. We are desperately in need of artists for the November Artwalk, but I will also be immediately booking for December and January. If you would like to participate, please let us know as soon as you can. Also, feel free to forward this invitation to other local artist who may be interested in showing their art.

Open call to artists - large group show!

Call For Artists ... Vision & Persuasion
Artists from the Pacific Northwest are invited to submit works for inclusion in The Kingstad Gallery’s upcoming show:

Vision & Persuasion 3/10/08 to 5/31/08

All art is a form of persuasion: from manipulating the materials and coaxing the creative process, to evoking the viewer’s response. At its best, it is a shared experience that creates a dialogue of influence, comfort, resistance, and surrender. Art reflects the artist's vision and has the power to move us out of our habitual thoughts and into a deeper perception.

What is your vision? What do you have to say about it?

Artists from all visual disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Application deadline: 2/20/08

A CALL TO ARTISTS
We would like to extend this invitation for you to exhibit your work at the Doll Gardner Gallery.

For over 25 years, our gallery in SW Portland has exhibited work of a wide range of artists, from the celebrated to the emerging. We seek artists on an ongoing basis, and each artist who submits work for review will be given full consideration. Nine 1-month long shows and one 3-month long summer show are offered each year with the exhibits scheduled well in advance.

The gallery is located in the sanctuary of the WHUUF in a beautiful forested setting on S.W. Oleson Road. We believe that art serves to enrich our congregation and the community and our art openings bring all together to celebrate the artist and their work. Throughout the month, approximately 250 to 300 people in addition to the artist’s own following view the work. Gallery hours are Sundays 12-2, Tuesday- Thursday from 12:30 – 3:00pm or by appointment (during the Summer months the office is open on Wednesdays from 12:30 –3pm.)

The space is large and is suited for display of wall-mounted art only. Subject matter can cover the gamut from intense to delightful. Work that honors life and the human spirit has been well received. A show requires a body of work of around 24 medium sized pieces. We invite artists to view the gallery before committing to a show. Besides solo exhibitions, two or more artists may opt to combine for a group show.

What is provided: WHUUF provides the food for the art opening, which is held the first Sunday of the month from 12:15 to 2pm. We provide local publicity to complement the artist's promotional efforts.

The commission schedule of 20% provides an excellent opportunity for the artist – approximately half the commission rates of most galleries. The gallery percentage reflects our philosophy of supporting artists, particularly emerging artists.

Jurying process - Artists are asked to submit high-resolution jpeg images of the work that is available to be shown in the gallery. Jpegs are preferred as they are the easiest to be viewed by all members.
If you are interested in showing in our gallery, please contact

Frame shop looking for co-owner
Recently I took over a sleeping picture framing business from a family member. I've done a lot of work to it to get it up and going again. Moved it from it's old location, updated it physically and restructured it so that it would be in my name and hope to fully restructure it into an LLC.

Although, life has come to me in different ways and I might be relocating to the UK. I don't want to fully relinquish all the control of the business, but would accept offers from others who want to co-own it with me.

I am looking for someone who wants to expand on the business. co-op it in a way. There is a lot that can be done for example expanding on the art side of it. turn some of the space into a learning environment, create an artists' co-op for monthly fee.

framefactory@gmail.com

If you know anyone that would be interested in this, pass it on.

Thanks,

Layla

Hi Robert. I have a question.

I noticed that you had info about a previous show at the Kingstad Gallery. I am the curator at the Kingstad and I'm wanting to have a strong photographic presence in the winter exhibit, Way Of Peace Way Of Art.

Is there a way to post a general announcement on NWPF?

Thanks and a good Sunday to you.

Lora

Hey Robert, Great to see all of this info. I was a member of PPF many years ago and I would highly recommend anyone to become a member. Is it still a Fine Art Photography group?

I'm also a founding member of the Inner Light Society which Master BW Photographer Shedrich Williames started back in 1986. This is a Vancouver/Portland based group, again another great group of become a member of. I moved up to Port Angeles back in 1989 so my involvement is not like it use to be. I do still come down and visit whenever I have the chance.

Best to ya, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer

Portland Photographers Forum is alive and well.

We have over 70 members and still very active as a Fine Art Organization. We have our monthly meetings at Wilson High in Portland, every third Wednesday of the month. In October, we had three PPF members work critiqued by Jason Langer who is an on-line photography instructor at University of San Francisco and former assistant to Michael Kenna.
I'll share what we are planning for the next 5 months or so.
November 19th, the two authors of "Wild Beauty" come and share about the book and do a book signing.
Dec 10th is our holiday party and we're having a representative of P:ear come in share work they do.
Jan 21st. A black and white film photographer will show work.
Feb 18th, A husband and wife team of digital photographers.
March 18th. Susan Bein. another digital photographer
April 15 is Jason Langer showing some of his students work.
There will be more events I'm sure.

OH-I'm sorry but we would have to stone you!
Anyone is welcome to come at anytime. If you miss the first half hour you would miss my wonderful blabbing of what's happening and where.
