i think this makes it official... my Sigma EX80-400 blows my Canon 100-400L into the weeds... got these shots of a golden-crowned sparrow at the park today... the light was right, the bird was cooperative, nice background... and the Sigma let me make the most of it!

Very nice treatment of a common bird - the sparrow that is not sure if the golden crown sparrow is common. I’ve always liked sparrows. Probably because I can’t help but think of the remark, “You are worth more than many sparrows.”

Sharp as a tack Rocky, nice stuff.

That Sigma... auto-focus, f4 or so? Whats the price range?

thanks! this was taken at 1/800 @ f/8.0, at 400mm from a monopod. the EX80-400 is a 4.5-5.6 lens, with stabilization. they run about $975 when you can find them (backlog at the factory...). focus isn't as fast as the 100-400L, but the optics are every bit as good, and that's what counts most to me!
